I am not much of a writer, but here goes...
I guess for a small part of my life, I was an Entrepreneur. I started my own business. I bought everything that I needed for this business from my personal finances, I registered my LLC and got a tax ID number. I had a legitimate business that I paid taxes on and that could be googled. That makes it real, right!?!
Having your own business is no small undertaking. It was time consuming, hard word. I am sure that it would have been well worth the time and effort had I been able to stick with it. For a small business to grow and succeed, the requirements are greater than what I had at that particular time in my life. My business was successful, but life threw some curve balls at me and I closed shop a few years after getting started.
I am fortunate to have several Entrepreneurs in my life. I have friends that are in business for themselves, making significant impacts on our community, in their chosen field. There is one person in my life, whom I would truly call an Entrepreneur, making huge strides in the world of Chiropractics. I am honored to have occasionally worked along side him and his amazing team over the past few years watching his "baby" grow to be a wildly successful organization. Diligence is the key.
In all honesty and candor, the main reason that I enrolled in this class is because it fit my schedule. My initial thought was that I would probably never use it and it was something that I could get credits for. Now that I am looking through the assignments and realizing what I am going to have to do, I feel that I may really enjoy this and learn a lot. I never thought of myself as an entrepreneur or that my tiny business would ever amount to anything, but great things can come from tiny ideas. Who knows, I may be in business for myself again and do great things. Hopefully this class will change my mindset, open it up and broaden my horizons. I look forward to seeing what's ahead.
Below is a picture of my "google-able" business.

Sweet Tater & Co.? I need to know more! Having a Tax ID is legit, Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteI think you're in the right place. It's weird how things work out some times; maybe fate steered you here to give you a second push toward entrepreneurship. You've got a lot here in this post that has me ready to read more. I'm excited to see how your blog develops, what you decide to do. You already have some great connections for interviews, and, although you may not realize it, you have insight other students don't. You've practiced entrepreneurship!
If you'd like to know a little bit more about my story, you can come on over to my blog and check out my post. http://adventuresinent.blogspot.com/2016/01/my-entrepreneurship-story.html
Hi Carolyn, I would say that absolutely constitutes a legitimate business. You are an entrepreneur. It's wonderful that you have so many entrepreneurs in your life. I think that if owning your own business again is what your heart desires then you should go after that. Maybe this class will help you change your mindset and help you realize that you are an entrepreneur.
ReplyDeleteHey Carolyn! I think it is amazing that you had your own business even if it was only for a few years. It is really great that you know so many successful entrepreneurs in your life that you can learn from. I too enrolled in this class because it fit my schedule and I also expect to learn much more from this class than I was anticipating.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, that is very impressive that you were able to successfully build your own business. From growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, I have seen the sacrifice of both time and money that creating your own business and that only makes what you did more impressive. Like you, I also am taking this class because it fills a requirement and fits my schedule. I hope we can both find a little fun in it.
ReplyDeleteWhat??? That's so cool that you have already started your own business. You are WAY ahead of the game. I bet many of the things we learn throughout this course you have already learned yourself through personal experience with your business. I hope that this class does open your mind to all of the possibilities out there. You clearly have that "entrepreneurial spirit" that just comes so naturally to some people... I'd say that is the #1 step!
